Marathon Training: Day 1 - 60 days to go

Well, I decided to start back blogging to help share my experience of training for a full marathon at now age 43. So for a birthday present to myself, I registered Scott and myself for the Disneyworld Marathon on January 9, 2011. So, happy birthday to me today! :)

We both felt that if we were going to do a full, now would be the prime time because we've both put in a lot of hours and miles getting ready for the Battleship Half that we just completed this past Sunday. I did manage to shave about a minute off my time from the last Battleship Half. I was hoping for 2 hours, but I'll take my 2 hours and 3 minutes!

So now that we are officially registered, money paid...I must train for it.I still can't believe that I'm actually going to travel 26.2 miles on my feet! You really never know what you'll end up doing in life sometime.

Tonight was my first night back doing any type of running since Sunday. My legs felt pretty good today considering yesterday my quads were really sore. I was hoping to run a few miles outside today, but a staff meeting kept me at work a little longer so I ended up at the gym on the treadmill.

My goal tonight was to do about 4-5 miles, but when I got there I realized that my legs felt pretty good. Scott and I stayed for nearly and hour and I managed to get 6 miles in, in 55 minutes. I still can't believe how well my legs felt when I finished. It's kinda a great feeling!

My goal is to do shorter runs this week with a longer run this weekend. Scott and I are going to attempt to figure out what plan is best for us to use on longer runs to ensure we don't injure ourselves. So, hopefully, after Saturday or Sunday we'll have a litte more figured out.
