Well, I decided last night that I was going to run the Diligence Dash 5K today. It's another race downtown and I wanted to run it WITHOUT WALKING!! I needed to make myself feel better about last Thursday's race downtown when I did walk.
So, I got up this morning and made it downtown to register a little earlier than usual because I wanted to warm up a little since I've been experiencing a little discomfort with both of my heels. I've been trying to stretch them and ice them to help make sure what ever is happening doesn't get worse. They are a little tender in the mornings, but never when I run, so I guess that's a good thing.
When I got downtown I noticed there was a lot of wind and I thought to myself, where was this wind on Thursday when it was so hot.....anyway, once the race got underway I felt okay. I tried to pace myself accordingly because I knew the hills that I would be encountering and my goal was to run the entire race (which shouldn't ever be a problem). I felt pretty good the whole time while running, but I did keep wondering to myself at what point would the road ever level out and not be at an incline :)
I ran the race without needing water and of course without stopping, but my time wasn't good at all. I'm thinking it was because of the hills and running into the wind for the majority of the race. I managed to place 3rd, with with the 2nd place person beating my by 0.05 - look at the posted pics...you can see how close. I didn't realize she was in my age group or I'd tried to beat her (ha ha). But, the awards really weren't any different except my certificate said 3rd and not 2nd, but the medallion was the same.
Again, the run for me was a redemption run and I feel much better after today even though my time was worse, I felt better about my performance.
I won't be running any races next weekend because Scott and I will be out of town so I'll be missing the Azalea Run, but it'll be okay...I think the 4 I did this week makes up for it!
