Tri-Span 10k by runningwithkel at Garmin Connect - Details
......................................................................................
Got up at 6 this morning after not sleeping well, and found Scott on the couch where he also had a miserable night (3rd shift thing) and told him it was time to get up. He tells me he didn't fall asleep until 4. So, I asked him if he still wanted to race this morning and anyway to make a long story short...we were really, really, really close to just sleeping in.
But, we got on stuff on and headed downtown as it is now raining. Boy at that point I so wanted to just turn around. Finally making it downtown, the race stopped thank goodness and we had to go register. Again, another temptation set in...5k was just calling my name. But, I stuck to the game plan and did the 10k.
I've never ran the 10k before mainly because I hate them!!!! - and then add the hills and bridges to it and it's really horrible. But, I didn't set any expectations for myself at all today except one and that was to let it be enjoyable. Normally 5k's are full of pressure and placing and I know I'm not competitive in a 10k, so life was good as I started running.
They had to change the course this year because of the farmers market getting so big, so instead of facing one hill before the bridges, they added a second one...can you say UGH!!!! I took it really slow up the hills, because from past experience I know I expend way too much energy getting up them (yes I need to train for them).
The bridges were okay, I did walk up the ascending portion of the last two of them, and I'm sure that is what put me over the 1 hr mark. But again, I wasn't running today to shatter any records!
This was also Scott's first time doing the Tri-Span and encountering the bridges. I had faced them before during the Battleship half marathon. He finished in like 53 minutes and he also ran the race without pressure. We both really enjoyed the race today and glad we did it.
Next weekend is the Summer of Love 5 miler and 10 miler. I think Scott and I both are going to do the 10 miler, again without expectations or pressure - just have fun!
